Age Group State – It has been a very successful “Championship Season” so far (see below) and we are excited to see our WTSC Age Group State team keep the ball rolling this weekend at the ISI Age Group State Championships (March 21-23 @ IU Natatorium). An informational email will be sent to all participating families tomorrow but please speak with your group coach if you have any questions and good luck to our WTSC swimmers in action this weekend!
Divisional Recap – Our final hosted meet of the season was a smashing success, and we couldn’t have done it without you, our parents and families. We appreciate your time, energy and dedication to our team in hosting this thrilling championship event. And WTSC swimmers provided plenty of thrills! Leading the charge was Hayden Rodgers who made the first Age Group State cut of his career in the 50 Breaststroke. Jack Campbell made a new Senior State cut in the 500 Freestyle and Amos Groothuis made new Age Group State cuts in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke and 50 & 100 Butterfly. And the 10&Under boys 200 Freestyle Relay team of Gabriel Curtis, Brody Guerrettaz, Ethan Rodgers and Porter Shelbourne made the Age Group State cut with their gold medal finish. Amos Groothuis, Brooks Klene, Michael Leppert and Hayden Rodgers touched the wall first in the 11-12 Boys 200 Medley Relay. Kristopher Barna, Grady Mosby, Jackson Rodgers and Aksel Swenson won the 13-14 Boys 200 Medley Relay. And additional first-place finishes were turned in by Leah Kiefer in the 50, 100 and 1650 Freestyle and Aksel Swenson in the 50 & 200 Freestyle. An updated Honor Roll through Senior State (see below) has been posted online and at the pool. Check it out for these highlights and many more.
Senior State Recap – Our Senior swimmers took on the best high school swimmers from across the state at the ISI Senior State Championships and turned in many highlights of their own. Congratulations to the newest member of the WTSC National Team, Katie Countryman, who made the first Futures cut of her career in the 50 Freestyle. And Katie teamed with Sarah McPherson, Kayley Spicer and Lillian Tabor to set a new WTSC record in the 200 Medley Relay on their way to a 7th place finish. Individual top finishes were turned in by Jack Campbell (33rd – 500 Freestyle), Katie Countryman (7th – 50 Freestyle), Sebastian Granados (29th – 100 & 200 Breaststroke), Sarah McPherson (12th – 100 Breaststroke), Kayley Spicer (9th – 200 Breaststroke), Lillian Tabor (28th – 200 Backstroke) and Sam Wolfe (14th – 100 Backstroke). Katie, Kayley, Sarah and Annie Wolfe finished 11th in the 800 Freestyle Relay. Jack, Sebastian and Sam teamed with Aksel Swenson to finish 21st in the 800 Freestyle Relay. And Jack, Sebastian and Sam teamed with Axel Garcia-Esquivel to finish 35th in the 400 Medley Relay. Check out the Honor Roll for these highlights and many more.
Congratulations – WTSC is proud of Sam Wolfe who has committed to DePauw University where he will continue his athletic and academic career in the fall of 2025. Congratulations Sam and good luck in the next chapter of your career.
Important Dates – We are in the home stretch of the season and have several important dates to communicate as we finish the current season and plan for the upcoming long course season. Please note the dates below:
- Tuesday, March 25 – We will have our traditional end-of-season pool party on this date from 5:30-7pm. The diving boards will be open, and swimmers should bring their floats and pool toys and enjoy some fun with their teammates.
- Wednesday, March 26 – Our last practices of the season will be on this date. Please follow the posted March practice schedule carefully.
- Monday, April 14 – After we take our short spring hiatus, we will resume training for our long course season on this date. An April practice schedule will be posted to the “Practice Schedule” tab of the WTSC website closer to this date.
- Tuesday, April 15 & Thursday, April 17 – A new season means the addition of new members to our team! We will hold evaluations for any new swimmers interested in WTSC on these dates from 6-7pm. Any interested families can click the “Contact Us” button on the WTSC homepage to speak with a club administrator about evaluations.
Speedo Sectionals – Our final meet of the spring “Championship Season” will be Speedo Sectionals (March 27-30 @ IU Natatorium). This long course prelims/finals event is a national level championship meet that brings swimmers from all over the country to Indianapolis for a high-level competition. Please speak with Coach Josh if you have questions about this event.
